just a note to tell you how sorry i am about larry. the last time i saw him, in the hospital, he did not know who i was. there were so many things i wanted to say to him, but was unable to. i called him at home but he didn't want to talk, so i didn't bother again. i lost my dad last november. he lived in sweethome oregon. it seems hard, edward, for me to believe you are in your thirties. not long ago i was staring at you thru the nursery window at the hospital where you were born. joyce had on a red, quilted robe. this was before she had her hair cut and it hung down to her waist. a year or so later i sat with you while your mom and dad went to virginias for a gathering of some kind. all you did was sleep. coming to your house on christmas eve dressed up like santa and didn't fool you one iota. you knew who i was. your uncle larry didn't and he got upset because i wiggled my beard at his wife mona. that was on elm street. i think you were 2 or so. took you once to see walt disneys fantasia and you were so bored and restless you nearly ran outta theater when it was over. tried to tell you a ghost story on halloween and you and one of your friends begged be not to. but the girls there wanted to hear one anyway. but your mom and dad were in the dining room (at colony house) staring at me so i didn't dare. i don't intend to write you again, just this note. not much to say to you but memories and i don't think you want to deal with that. take care of yourself. you were always a good kid. i'm glad that you've gotten your home and are doing the things that give you pleasure. your little girls are so pretty. you've also a pretty wife. good-bye edward. jim
